Patricia R. Pontia, 88, of Yorkville, OH, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2022, at Continuing Healthcare of Shadyside. She was born on March 18, 1933, in Yorkville, OH to the late Pete and Rose (Markovich) Schuller.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Raymond A; a daughter, Jeanette Pontia; a grandson, Jason Pontia; and a brother, John Schuller.
Pat is survived by her daughter Debra (Steve) Norman, and her two sons, Raymond M (Vivian) and David (Dianne) Pontia. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Steven (Karen) Norman, Shayla (Daniel) Goforth; Amanda (Daniel) Spenn, Brenda Pontia, Christina Dykstra; Jenilee, Jillian and Juliette McNamara; and Margot Pontia. Seven great-grandchildren, Haileigh and Chayston Dykstra, Brecken Austin; Alex and Landon Norman; and Blayne and Miles Goforth, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Pontia graduated from Yorkville High School in 1951 and then from the Ruth Brant School of Nursing. She received her BS degree at the California University of PA and her MA degree from WVU. She was a former nursing instructor at Belmont Technical College who loved teaching. She always asked her students to "Treat every patient as if your own family member".
She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Martins Ferry, Ohio.
The family would like to thank Ronda Tipton for giving 16 years of loving care to Ray, and then to Pat. Ronda has been our blessing.
A private service was held in the Parkview Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum in Wheeling, WV, with the Rev. Tom Thomas officiating. A Celebration of her Life will be held in the Spring. Borkoski Funeral Home in Tiltonsville, OH is entrusted with arrangements.
