Mark Armitage, 70, of Tiltonsville, OH, passed away, Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at East Ohio Regional Hospital.
He was born November 13, 1952, in Martins Ferry, OH, to the late John and Lois (Kyre) Armitage.
Mark was a graduate of WCHS, Tiltonsville, class of 1970. He served in the United States Air Force durin g the Vietnam War as a Flight Mechanic out of the AGE Shop. He served with 366th TFW during Linebacker I and served with 6280th combat support group during Linebacker II. Mark was diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease two weeks after cease fire in Vietnam, while stationed at Takhli RTAFB which ended his military career.
For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the USAF Expert Small Arms Marksman Ribbon.
After the service, he attended and graduated from Penn Gunsmith School in 1976, working for many firms including Milligans, Ferry Hardware & his own Enterprise.
Mark was Water Superintendent of Tiltonsville from 1979-1982. He was also a nationally certified range officer for NMLRA from 1983-1997. He was very active with Veterans Organizations for many years. A life member of DAV Bellaire Chapter 117, where he served as commander from 1989-1994, during which time, working tirelessly to secure passage of Agent Orange & PTSD Legislation for Vietnam Veterans. He was a life member of Yorkville VFW Post 4811, where he served as Quarter Master from 2005-2015 guiding the post to its first Two Allstars Awards since the post was initially charted in 1946.
He was a member of the American Legion, post 33 in Steubenville, OH.
Talented with many sharpened skills, he combined his wood carving, mechanic & machinist skills to preserve Antiques, firearms and primitives to original condition during the last 30 years. Those lucky enough to have acquired one of his thousands of restoration or build projects, have a gem.
Mark is survived by his wife, Loretta (Richards) Armitage; his son, John (Heather) Armitage; two brothers, Gary (Barbara) Armitage and John (Joann) Armitage; three grandchildren, Allison, Lindsey and Carson and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received to pay tribute to Mark and celebrate his life on Sunday, December 4th, from 4-8, at the Borkoski Funeral Home, Tiltonsville, OH.
Funeral services will be held Monday, 10 am, from the funeral home, with Reverend James Agnew officiating.
Full Military services will be held at 10:15 by the Yorkville VFW.
