James Joseph Kovalcik, 71, of Martins Ferry, OH, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022, surrounded by his family.
He was born on March 7, 1951, in Martins Ferry, OH to the late James and Margaret (Petras) Kovalcik. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Kovalcik and his in-laws, Robert and Regina Lavy.
Jim was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Tiltonsville, OH, where he sang in the choir. He worked at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel and Ohio Coatings Company, in Yorkville, OH. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers and Ohio State Buckeyes. His true passion was his family. He loved being with family and friends. Jim will be greatly missed!
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Catherine (Lavy) Kovalcik; his son, J. Ben (Jeff Borchers) Kovalcik; two daughters, Carrie (Mark) Ramsay and Jamie (Jason) Cash; a brother, Mark (Lisa) Kovalcik; a sister, Suelyn (Poozie) (Les); four grandchildren, Bryce and Bradie Ann Ramsay and Jadyn and Josie Cash; five sisters-in-law, Cynthia (Frank) Fregiato, Jeannine (Rod) Repka, Roberta (Milo) Hyde, and Denise (Dick) Withers; one brother-in-law Robert (Sue) Lavy; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins that all held a special place in his heart.
Family and friends will be received to pay tribute to Jim and celebrate his life on Sunday, June 12th from 2pm to 8pm at the Borkoski Funeral Home, Tiltonsville, OH, with a vigil service at 4 pm. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be Monday, 11:00am, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Tiltonsville, OH, with Father William Cross officiating.
Jim’s family requests that donations be sent to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Tiltonsville, OH or Capital City Hospice in Columbus, OH.
