Gary Lee Wharton, 75, of Rayland, OH, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at East Ohio Regional Hospital.
He was born March 3, 1948, in Martins Ferry, OH, to the late George and Irene (Papp) Wharton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Judy (Dawson) Wharton and two brothers, George Wharton Jr and Ron Wharton.
Gary was employed with Sears for many years before retiring from Johnson Boiler Works and served the Village of Rayland for two years as Police Chief. Gary was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Rayland Methodist Church.
Gary is survived by two sons, Gary and James Wharton; six grandchildren, Michelle, Amanda, Jessica, Andrew, Autumn and James Wharton III; four great-grandchildren, Paisley, Noah, Alexis and Cameron and a special daughter in-law, Dawn Wharton.
Friends will be received to pay tribute to Gary and celebrate his life on Monday, January 22nd, from 4-8 pm, at the Borkoski Funeral Home, Tiltonsville, OH.
Funeral services will be Tuesday 11 am, from the funeral home, with Reverend Tom Thomas officiating.
