Daniel "Danny/Bub" Meeker

Daniel “Danny/Bub” Meeker, 80, of Yorkville, Ohio passed away Sunday, Feb 5, in Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV.

He was born April 24, 1942, in Wheeling, WV, son of the late Daniel W. Meeker and Mildred (Baker) Meeker. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Joyce (Bayardi) Meeker; four sons, Douglas Meeker of Columbus, OH, Darin (June) Meeker of Powell, OH, Derek Meeker of Los Angeles, CA; and Dustin (Melissa) Meeker of Baltimore, MD; six grandchildren, Nathan, Noah, Noelle, Elizabeth, Quinn, and Camden Meeker; and a brother, William “Skip” (Dollie) Meeker of Glen Robbins, OH.

Danny was a graduate of Warren Consolidated High School and attended West Liberty University, where he was a four-year member of the Hilltopper football team. He worked as a foreman for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel for 23 years, retiring in 2005, and served as a Warren Township trustee from 1989 until his death; he was honored as Township Official of the Year in 2017. He was also a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Indian Club.

Known for his tireless work ethic, generosity, spirited story-telling and sharp style, Danny was immensely loyal to his family and many friends in the community. An avid sports fan, he religiously watched the Pittsburgh Pirates on TV and enjoyed attending Pirate games with his wife, Joyce, not to mention traveling all over the state to watch the numerous athletic events of his children and grandchildren. He took tremendous pride in the upkeep of his lawn and home and rarely missed a Thursday night poker game with his buddies.

Friends will be received to pay tribute to Danny and celebrate his life Thursday, Feb 9, from 2-5 pm and 6-8 pm, at the Borkoski Funeral Home, Tiltonsville, OH, with Vigil Services at 4:30 pm.

Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be Friday, Feb 10, 10 am, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiltonsville, OH with Father William Cross and Father Daniel Huesel officiating. Interment will be held at Holly Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the James Cancer Center at Ohio State University.
