Carole Ann Treon, 80, of Kitty Hawk, NC (formerly of Falls Church, VA), passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, following a stroke.
Born on December 15, 1944, in Glen Robbins, Ohio, to Richard and Anne Stillwagon (formerly Slezak), Carole attended Adena High Scholl and moved to Washington DC shortly after graduation. She spent her career in the federal government, supporting the public sector through her career with the National Park Service, proudly retiring in 1997.
Carole was predeceased by both her parents, her son-in-law Joseph Neal Sherman, and her husband, Gary Treon. She is survived by her children: Tracy Montgomery (Dan Sprinkle), Christopher Crabtree (Bev Pasquariello), and Cynthia Novak, as well as bonus daughter Toni Bishop (Marty).
She was grandmother to four wonderful and amazing grandchildren: Kevin Montgomery (partner Tasha Stowe), Ashleigh Sherman (partner Eli Chapas), Brandon Bishop (Nicole) and Grant Bishop (Hannah). In recent years, the family was blessed with three great grandchildren: Elle, Theodore and Posy Bishop.
Carole is also survived by her sister Michelle Gavarkavich (Hank), brothers Michael Stillwagon (Arlene) and Dic Stillwagon (Bette), and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family lovingly collected over the years.
After retirement, Carole and Gary made their dream of coastal living a reality, settling in Kitty Hawk NC. She welcomed her grandchildren for long summer stays and enjoyed lounging on her deck in the sun.
Carole had a passion for home renovations, yard sales, and “stirring the pot,” She maintained her fiery spirit to the end — she was a bold, funny, and deeply loving woman who we will miss every day.
Her final day was spent exactly how she wanted — a tasty breakfast at a favorite dive, lunch and lemon pie with her son-in-law Dan, and a little gambling with her daughter Tracy, before finally cuddling with her beloved tiny pup, Sophie.
She left us peacefully, free from pain and worry to join Gary and her parents.
Per her wishes, arrangements are private. Cards and memories for the family may be sent to her daughter Tracy Montgomery at 509 S Spring St, Falls Church, VA 22046.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association or National Kidney Foundation — or, better yet, go hit a penny slot in her honor.
