BARRY JOSEPH CLOSSER- 1950-2026
Funeral Services – Yorkville Methodist Church, 121 3rd St, Yorkville, Ohio 43971.
Friday, February 20, 2026 - Visitation 3pm-7pm
Saturday, February 21, 2026 – Visitation 10am, Funeral Service 11am, with Pastor Adam Mitchell and Pastor Jim Monogioudis.
Barry Joseph Closser 75, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at WVU Continuous Care Center.
He was born August 2, 1950, Martins Ferry, OH, to the late Joseph and Helen (Balough) Closser.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, JoAnne (Closser) Coffey and his nephew, Bradley Joseph Closser.
He is survived by Brothers, Craig (Gloria) Closser, Blair (Patty) Closser and many
nephews, nieces.
Barry was a 1968 Graduate of Yorkville High School, a 1972 Graduate of Ohio University - BS in Education and a 1974 Graduate of WVU – Masters Degree.
He retired from Buckeye Local School District after 37 Years of service. While at Buckeye Local, he coached softball for 32 years. He also Coached High School Bowling, Freshman Football, Volleyball, & amp; 7th Grade Boys’ Basketball. He was the 38th All-Time Winningest Coach in State of Ohio (430 Career Wins) He was inducted into Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame,2003 and into the OHSAA East District Softball Coaches Hall of Fame,2003. He was the OVAC Softball Director for 20 years, a 3-time OVAC Softball Coach of the Year, 3-time OHSAA East District Softball Coach of the Year and earning 3 OVAC Softball Championships, 1988 Buckeye West, 1989 Buckeye Southwest and 1999 Buckeye Local. Also, OVAC Golf Championship 1987 Buckeye West. He was a member of the Yorkville Methodist Church and the Yorkville Fire Department.
