Anna Simmons Obituary

Anna Margaret Simmons was born in Athens Greece on April 17th, 2002.  She passed from this life on February 9, 2025.  She is deeply missed by her family and friends.  She is survived by her loving parents, David and Melissa Simmons, her brothers, Brookhart (Spencer), Jonathan (Noel), and Spencer (Blakely), and her grandmother, MaryAnn Simmons.

Anna was an exceptional young woman.   Anna was an accomplished scholar and a competitive athlete.

She graduated from Middlesex School where she mastered advanced mathematics and computer science.  She also was a five-time varsity letter recipient and captain of the field hockey team.     She achieved her goal of acceptance to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).   While at MIT she brought light to all her field hockey teammates and sorority sisters at Sigma Kappa.    Anna was one semester away from earning her undergraduate degree in Computer Science and was accepted to the selective accelerated Masters of Engineering program at MIT.

She was the best daughter, sister, and friend any of us could have asked for.   “Her smile”, “Her smile”, “Her smile” is the common refrain from those who knew and loved her.   Her kindness, compassion and empathy were a comfort to all who knew her.

Anna pursued life with passion and marched to the beat of her own drum.  Anna had a love of nature, outdoor life, music and dance.  She took a gap year before starting at MIT (during the Covid pandemic) and chose to work on farms in Vermont and Hawaii.  She was a perpetual motion machine.   Academics were her primary passion, and she committed herself to mastery of some of the most difficult subject matter available.  No one could outwork Anna.

She was a top performer at MIT and had abundant career choices and companies to consider.  Anna chose to intern at John Deere in Iowa, aligning her career with her interest in the outdoors and farming.   All of us could recognize Anna being true to herself in this decision.

She sought fulfillment by being active in every area of her life.  She received various NEWMAC and NFHCA academic and athletic accolades during her time at MIT.  She held various leadership positions in her sorority and was active in a variety of extracurricular pursuits including undergraduate research (improving energy efficiency in power plants) and volunteering with Little Beavers, mentoring children in Boston.

What Anna achieved was impressive. She did more amazing things in less time than most of us do in a typical lifetime.   She will be sorely missed.

Matthew 5:8 – “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”

Anna, rest in peace.
