Nick Makrinos, 89, of Yorkville, OH, died, Thursday, February 14, 2019, at home, with his family by his side.
He was born on October 14, 1929, in Martins Ferry, OH, to the late Ernest and Helen (Thanos) Makrinos.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George Makrinos and his great-grand daughter, Haley Elizabeth Klamerus.
Nick served in the United States Air force during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Yorkville, OH, and was a past president of the Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Union. Nick was also a member and past president of the Yorkville Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the VFW, Yorkville. Also, he was a Councilman for the village of Yorkville, was on the Board of Education, he was a Buckeye local Boosters Club member and belonged to the Yorkville Italian Club.
Nick is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Clara (Cardo) Makrinos; three daughters, Marianne (Ron) Lenz, Carol (Patrick) Lafalce and Terri Schrader; two brothers, Manuel Makrinos and Father Constantine Makrinos; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received to pay tribute to Nick and celebrate his life on Monday, February 18th from 2-8, at the Borkoski Funeral Home, Tiltonsville, OH with a Triasagion Service at 6:30.
The Orthodox Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 19th, at 10 am from St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, in Wheeling, WV, with Father Demetrios Tsikouris officiating.
Following funeral services, full military services will be conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association, at Holly Memorial Gardens.
